Rachel Wieland Announced as Sophie’s Squad Ambassador

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — Collegiate hockey forward Rachel Wieland is set to join Sophie’s Squad’s new ambassador program.

Wieland, a native of Rice, Minnesota, is an accomplished player at several levels of competition. She was a standout forward for Sartell/Sauk Rapids High, playing 68 games and registering 44 points. After her high school career, Wieland went on to play Division III hockey at Gustavus Adolphus College and St. Olaf College. She graduated after the 2024-25 season, but has continued to play. She recently represented Team South Korea in the Dream Nations Cup.

While Wieland had a great career as an athlete, she’s a crucial part of the Sophie’s Squad mission and has been part of the organization from its inception. Rachel is the sister of Sophie Wieland, whose tragic passing was the impetus for the creation of Sophie’s Squad. Her journey as an athlete and sister has positioned her to be a powerful advocate for mental health in the sports world.

Wieland is excited to join the ambassador program with Sophie’s Squad and have the opportunity to continue the conversation on mental health.

As an ambassador, Wieland will continue championing Sophie’s Squad while advancing mental health awareness and initiatives. Ambassadors promote the organization through the power of their reach as high-level elite athletes. Sophie’s Squad director of marketing, Ryan Bahl, spoke about Wieland’s involvement with the ambassador program.

“Rachel Wieland has been a hugely important part of Sophie’s Squad since we started. She’s provided vital support, leadership and carried the mission of mental health advocacy admirably,” Bahl said. “We’re excited to expand her role in the organization with her officially joining the ambassador program.”

Wieland is the latest athlete to join the Sophie’s Squad ambassador program, joining a list of dedicated team members. The organization is excited to partner with a diverse group of athletes across all sports, age groups, and backgrounds.

Sophie’s Squad, founded in 2021, is a Minnesota-based nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues and breaking the stigma surrounding seeking help. The organization partners with athletes, teams, and communities to promote open conversations, education, and support through events nationwide.
