MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — professional hockey forward Izzy Daniel is set to join Sophie’s Squad’s new ambassador program.
Daniel, a Minnesota native, is an accomplished forward who is set to play for the PWHL Vancouver team after beginning her career with the Toronto Scepters. Daniel has been an accomplished player for several years going back to her high school career at Blake. Daniel won two state championships and was named a finalist for the 2019 Ms. Hockey Award. Daniel then went on to play her collegiate hockey at Cornell University.
At Cornell, Daniel continued to be a standout. She was the Ivy League Rookie of the year in 2020 and won the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award as college’s most outstanding player in 2024. Toronto drafted Daniel with the 18th overall pick in the 2024 PWHL Entry Draft.
Daniel is excited to join the ambassador program with Sophie’s Squad and have the opportunity to bring the organization’s message to Vancouver.
“I’m excited to be an ambassador with Sophie’s Squad because I have been around several athletes who have struggled with mental health while playing their sport and they didn’t have access to the adequate resources they needed,” Daniel said. “I would like to help raise awareness that it’s okay to ask for help and there are people there for you when it may feel like you’re all alone.”
Sophie’s Squad marketing coordinator, Ryan Bahl, spoke about Daniel’s involvement with the ambassador program.
“Izzy Daniel is an elite hockey player and an even greater person,” Bahl said. “We are excited to partner with her as she begins her career in Vancouver. We believe she will be an amazing asset and ambassador in getting our positive and empathetic message out there.”
Daniel is the latest athlete to join the Sophie’s Squad ambassador program, joining a list of dedicated team members. The organization is excited to partner with a diverse group of athletes across all sports, age groups, and backgrounds.
Sophie’s Squad, founded in 2021, is a Minnesota-based nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues and breaking the stigma surrounding seeking help. The organization partners with athletes, teams, and communities to promote open conversations, education, and support through events nationwide.
