Code of Conduct

Goal

Sophie’s Squad is excited to partner with you as an ambassador for our organization. Sophie’s Squad believes that all parties we partner with are of excellent and upstanding moral character. That is to say, we don’t expect that this code of conduct will ever be necessary. We acknowledge that by entering the ambassador program, you are generously donating your time, skills and effort; however, certain responsibilities and codes of conduct must be upheld at all times.

As a mental health organization, it is of paramount importance that our values, integrity and credibility are upheld by any party that represents Sophie’s Squad. Please familiarize yourself with our Ambassador Code of Conduct to ensure that your conduct is in accordance with this goal.

Representation

Sophie’s Squad defines “representation” as any time an ambassador could be reasonably considered as representing the organization. This includes posting on social media in support of Sophie’s Squad, attending Sophie’s Squad events, etc.

The “Code of Conduct” applies to any time a Sophie’s Squad ambassador meets the status of representation. Any action taken by an Ambassador while representing Sophie’s Squad that 1) reflects poorly on Sophie’s Squad, 2) is inconsistent with Sophie’s Squad policies, including the Ambassador Code of Conduct, or 3) is a direct hindrance to the effective performance of Sophie’s Squad volunteer or job functions may lead to Conduct action, up to and including immediate termination of the Ambassador’s status with the organization

General Conduct

Uphold Sophie’s Squad Values: Uphold Sophie’s Squad values of integrity, positivity, creating a welcoming environment and promoting mental health awareness. Do not engage in activity that undermines any of these values.

Zero tolerance for discriminatory, harmful or offensive behaviour: Avoid any discriminatory, harmful, or offensive behavior. Racist, sexist, homophobic, or other discriminatory actions are not tolerated and have no place in our community. As a mental health organization, this is particularly important in regards to things that could be considered bullying, hazing, harmful behavior, etc.

Be a standard bearer: Actively support and create a positive community among Sophie’s Squad Ambassadors. If you observe behavior by another ambassador, a member or volunteer of the organization, please report it.

Be a positive role model: Each of our ambassadors have been chosen to partner with us due to their ability to be a positive role model for mental health awareness. Understand your ability to influence community members and continue being that positive role model. Talk about mental health, be transparent about the importance of paying attention to it, etc. Most of all, be authentic and genuine in conduct while representing Sophie’s Squad

Health and Safety

Be responsible with health Information: Do not represent yourself as an expert on health, diseases, treatments, etc. Share your experience and explain what helps and works for you, but do not represent it as an objective fact that will work for everyone. Do not give medical advice.

Champion Mental Health Advocacy: We encourage ambassadors to be a champion for mental health advocacy even when not representing Sophie’s Squad. Mental health is an issue that affects us all. Being open about mental health issues is central to the goal of our organization.
