Meet Gabbie Hughes

Gabbie Hughes currently plays for the Ottawa Charge of the PWHL. Hughes scored 12 points in 24 games during her rookie season, making an immediate impact on the team. Before her career in professional hockey, Hughes was a standout player at the University of Minnesota Duluth. She played five seasons with the Bulldogs, captaining the team in her final season in 2022-23. Hughes has also represented the USA multiple times, notably winning a gold medal at the IIHF 2023 Women’s World Championships.

While Hughes is already a decorated player on the ice, she is also well-known for her philanthropic efforts off the ice. Hughes earned the 2023 Hockey Humanitarian Award for her work co-founding Sophie’s Squad and being a champion for mental health advocacy. Hughes has always been an integral part of Sophie’s Squad’s DNA and we’re excited to help her expand our efforts even more.

Sophie’s Squad inspires strength from even the toughest moments. It’s more than just a name on a jersey or a cause we support—it’s a movement that reminds us to check in on each other, to have the hard conversations, and to know that asking for help is a sign of courage, not weakness. By coming together, sharing our stories, and lifting each other up, we honor Sophie’s courage and carry her light forward in everything we do.
